Project Background
OMS Consulting Services, LLC (OMS CS) were engaged by our client to provide constructability and value engineering services to facilitate the use of a conceptual design for creation of a new river channel in the LA River. The winter flows of 2023 had significantly altered the existing channel from time of original survey and the client’s budget could not address the significant changes in volume of riverbed material in the project site. OMS Consulting was asked to develop a constructable solution for water diversion that could then be incorporated into the final channel configuration.
Scope
OMS CS staff conducted a site visit to coordinate design objectives with the City of LA’s hydraulic engineer, the City representatives, their constructor, and other project stakeholders. OMS CS facilitated the discussion to develop a water diversion plan that reduced overall volume of material to be moved to create a hydraulically stable new flow channel and which allowed the constructor to significantly reduce overall effort for stream channel construction, while minimizing the overall project footprint and potential for impacts to the stream channel.
